Teaching

Over 500 years old, Frankfurter Buchmesse is the largest book fair in the world and the most important book fair for international deals and trading. Every year, 7,400 exhibitors and 290,000 visitors take part in the Buchmesse and participants include publishers, agents, booksellers, librarians, academics, illustrators, service providers, film producers, translators, printers, professional and trade associations, institutions, artists, authors, and antiquarians. The Frankfurt Buchmesse is a meeting place for the industry and is the most important marketplace for books, media, rights and licences worldwide.

For the 2012 New York Art Book Fair, the Werkplaats Typographie will introduce WT Buchmesse, a micro book fair composed of individual stands, to be built, operated, and taken down over 3 days within a project room at MoMA PS1. The micro fair will include a reception area, a cafe and a bookstore. In addition, the WT Buchmesse will have it’s own graphic identity which will include signage, wayfinding, and a fair guide.

As a participant in WT Buchmesse, your brief is to occupy a stand that presents your interest in books. You may choose in which capacity and with which format to occupy your stand. Additionally, for the fair catalog, each student will be given 1 page to explain their stand.
