SO–IL, 2014
SO–IL is a New York-based architecture firm working across the cultural and residential sectors. Continuing our long-standing collaboration since 2007, this is the second website we’ve worked on with them.
SO–IL, website
When we made their first site in 2007 in collaboration with Linked by Air, SO–IL was a young firm and didn’t have a lot of built work. As a result, site was made to highlight multiple different aspects of their practice including competitions, writing and ideas.
By 2014, the firm had become much more established, had built work, and a clear visual language. Much of their practice involved innovative approaches to materials as well as experiments with levels of opacity to divide space. To highlight these physical qualities, a blur effect was used to obscure text and images on hovering over content on the site. Videos made using drones and other mechanized cinematic techniques were also introduced to highlight the material experiments of their projects.
In continuation with their first website, which was typeset in Univers, the website is typeset in Univers Bold in one type size throughout the site.
